A Must-Know SAT Strategy ✏️
Don't go into the exam without practicing this technique.
Hey everyone,
Before I jump into this week’s newsletter, I’m excited to announce that my SAT Bootcamp is live! Over four weeks and eight sessions, we’ll cover all the tips, tricks, and strategies you need to crush the upcoming August SAT.
As part of this bootcamp, you’ll train for the SAT with Dan—my friend and long-time SAT tutor who scored a perfect 1600 on the test.
Since these are live, interactive sessions designed for maximum engagement, we’ll be limiting enrollments. If you’re looking to improve your score, we recommend signing up as soon as you can!
With that said, let’s move onto this week’s newsletter! In spirit of the launch, I’d like to cover a strategy we went over in one of our bootcamps last year: “Figuring It Out.”
No, this isn't a crude way of telling you to "just solve it." I literally mean figure as in draw a (geometric) figure.
How can we apply this strategy? Let’s illustrate it with an example:

Note that this question deals with geometric figures, so we know that we can draw it out to get a better understanding of what we're dealing with:

When we draw out the problem (a solid sphere fully within a cube), we see that all we really need to do is to subtract the volume of the sphere from the volume of the cube! It really is that simple.
Plus, drawing it out helps keep track of your steps and avoid silly mistakes that we see students make far too often.

Note that to get our final answer (choice A), I used some of the formulas provided in the reference sheet of the Bluebook app. Don’t forget that you have full access to this sheet for the entirety of the math sections, as it's crucial to performing this strategy!
And unless you've already memorized all these formulas, I'd recommend reviewing them so you can save some time come test day.
If you’d like to learn more strategies for both the Reading and Math sections of the SAT, come enroll in our SAT Bootcamp. We’d love to see you there!
